The Beach Club is a traditional, private, seaside swimming and social club on Nantucket Sound. We provide a congenial, casual atmosphere for our members and their guests to enjoy the sea, sand and sun within the surroundings of our 100 year-old (almost) clubhouse.  We recognize and appreciate the vital role our employees play in ensuring a high level of enjoyment is met by the membership. TBC members contribute individually towards a scholarship fund for all eligible TBC employees; this is in addition to the end-of-season bonus.

  • Experienced Grill Cook
    • Position Title: Grill Cook

      Job Summary

      The position of Grill Cook at The Beach Club requires an individual to be professional and of a positive attitude, polite with excellent communication skills.  The Grill cook is a member facing position which requires the individual to maintain a neat professional uniformed appearance and observes personal cleanliness rules.  Additionally, the Grill cook must be pleasant and positive in all inquiries and comments to staff and members alike.  Prepares grilled and sautéed menu items according to club recipes and standards. Adheres to state and local health and safety regulations.

                            

      Job Duties:

      Key Accountabilities:

      Operational Responsibilities: TBC’s Grill Cook works the Grill station on the lunch line, and may be called to work the hot line in the back kitchen as assigned by the Executive Chef, or Sous Chef. The Lead Line Cook produces menu items of high quality and consistency in a timely manner. Responsible for preparation of the Grill station and accompanying garnishes for all Grill menu items. Assists in supervision and execution of daily mise en place for each station as available. Executes set up, maintenance and break down of the hot station and back kitchen as assigned by the Exec. Chef and Sous Chef ensuring that all product is stored, with covers, and dates neatly in the assigned areas. Responsible for accepting and storing of daily deliveries as assigned. Responsible for daily and weekly cleanliness and organization of lunch line Grill station and its equipment. Maintains the highest sanitary standards. Maintains safety and security in kitchen facility. Discusses and requisitions supplies needed for next shift and daily specials. Assists with other duties as instructed by the Chef or Sous Chef.

      Job Summary

      The position of bartender is a service position, responsible for satisfying our members’, and their guests’ food and beverage needs. Bartenders will serve food and beverages according to Club guidelines and consistently comply with all state, local laws relating to the service of alcohol. Bartenders will maintain neat, clean, sanitary and safe bars with a fun, and professional demeanor. Bartenders will record all transactions accurately and timely for daily end of shift reporting.

      Bartenders are primarily tasked to produce and serve alcoholic, and non- alcoholic beverages to our members and their guests as well as providing service of same to staff members cocktailing and or waiting tables. Bartenders are required to complete the set-up and maintenance of the bars to include glassware, filling ice bins, cutting fruit, and restocking supplies. Restocking includes accepting orders and carrying cases of beer, wine, and liquor from the delivery location to their proper storage locations, replace same on storage shelves and break down empty cases and disposes of same in the dumpsters before the end of the shift.

      Bartenders are required to perform and turn in daily requisitions for supplies and maintain all supplies according to established par levels, informing management when back-ups run below par levels. Bartenders must maintain a clean and sanitary work area for service. Bartenders are further required to have an excellent knowledge of mixed drinks to offer suggestions and special beverages to our members and their guests. Bartenders must be efficient, anticipating member needs – favorite drink, menus, condiments, additional service ware, etc and provides same before it is needed or asked for, presenting chits before being asked for them. Bartenders must know the menus for food and beverage to offer suggestions. Bartenders place orders accurately via POS system; informs kitchen of any special requirements, or in the case of a “hosted” bar all beverages produced must be recorded accurately for later billing to the host. Bartenders serve food and beverage according to guideline outlined in staff training. Bartenders perform daily, weekly and monthly clean-up and closing duties as assigned by the supervisor/manager, to include daily removal of empty beer bottles to cases at end of each shift, removes full cases of empty beer bottles to pick up area for later retrieval by distributors.

      Member interaction:

      Greets members by title and surname. Any time when a member and an employee cross paths it is the employee’s responsibility to greet the member and offer assistance. Bartenders are expected to generate a welcoming environment at the bar to attract and retain members. A welcoming and friendly personality is required. Bartenders inform their supervisors of any complaints as soon as they occur, to assure members that their concerns are being considered.

  • Server

      Job Summary

      Paramount of all of our duties is member satisfaction. Within member satisfaction our priorities are first to greet all members warmly using their title and surname maintaining a professional and welcoming atmosphere. Secondly, two to three years of Club service experience that indicates a broad food and beverage knowledge is preferred to ensure that food and beverage is served efficiently, accurately and happily, with an emphasis on menu knowledge and suggestive selling techniques. Wine experience is equally valued, again to ensure our member experience is positively memorable. We maintaining flexibility regarding member requests and accommodate as much as possible. Lastly, experience and industry knowledge are highly valued and encouraged to develop new and better ways of serving our members, and improving our efficiency to always improve our member’s Club experience while maintaining accurate records and data for reporting and analysis.

      Job Duties

      Arrives on time, punches in only when fully dressed/prepared for work to perform assigned side work. Maintains a high level of menu knowledge to offer suggestions and know when to clarify confusion on menu items with the member/guest. Repeats the order back to the member/guest to ensure both parties agree on what is being ordered. Places orders with kitchen/bar via a “dupe” system; informs kitchen/bar of any special requirements. If offering table service the server assembles food on tray, carries tray to the table, and serves meal by courses in front of each person in proper order and way, as outlined in staff training. Checks back to ensure member/guest satisfaction with the food, beverage and service. Removes soiled dishes, busses tables as outlined in staff training. Consistently complies with all state, local and club laws/policies relating to the service of alcohol. Performs clean-up and closing duties as assigned by captain/manager

      Member Interaction:

      Greets members by title and surname. Any time when a member and an employee cross paths it is the employee’s responsibility to greet the member and offer assistance immediately. When assigned a member to serve tableside the employee provides immediate attention to the members/guests to assure the member that the server is aware of them, to answers questions and take a beverage order immediately. Advises supervisor of any complaints as soon as they occur, to assure members that their concerns are being considered.

      Efficiency:

      Know the menu and beverage offerings thoroughly to portray knowledgeability and ensure efficient service. Employ efficient service skills as outlined in server training to maintain excellent service on multiple tables at the same time. Anticipates member needs – kids’ menus, crayons, sun glasses, condiments, additional service ware, etc and provides same before it is needed or asked for. Ensure that the server is aware of the status of each of their tables at any time on the floor to best serve the needs of each table. Presents chits before being asked for them.

      Administrative Skill:

      When taking a counter order or if assigned a table write the first initial and surname of the members being served. Input the correct member name, corresponding member number, table number (if offering table service) and covers for each check and modify as instructed. Verify accuracy of items and charges on each chit before presenting chit for signature. Present chits for member signature to ensure member agrees to their charges as well as establishing that end of shift reports accurately record the members and number of members who dined. Verify end of shift report information, on sales and number of diners served before clocking out.

  • Busser/Runner

      Job Summary

Busser/runners must be flexible regarding member requests and accommodate them as much as possible, always supporting communication between the members, the server and the manager. Lastly, experience and industry knowledge are highly valued; we encourage our staff to develop new and better ways of serving our members, and improving our efficiency to always improve our members' Club experience.

      Job Duties

      Busser/runners arrive on time, punching in only when fully dressed/prepared for work. They are required to prepare the bus cart, and to-go/food runner area; the goal of which is to prepare for, by anticipating, the needs of service. Busser/runners prepare the condiments and trays for table service and clean-up, they stay in communications with the floor supervisor to know when changes occur, and they must stay visible on the deck and secondarily in the dining room to know what tables need service throughout the meal. Busser/runners remove soiled dishes as trained – using a tray, bus tables as outlined in staff training, and carry food to tables on trays as assigned. Busser/runners are run (deliver) food for table service, beach dining and buffets/stations, and may be staffed to carry hors d’oeuvres. Busser/runners conduct all their duties according to the procedures outlined in the employee training guidelines. All employees consistently comply with all state, local and club laws/policies relating to the service of food and alcohol. Busser/runners perform clean-up and closing duties as assigned by the floor supervisor, and advise that supervisor of any complaints as soon as they occur to assure members that their concerns are being considered.

  • Beach Attendant
    • Position Title: Beach Attendant

      Reports to: Beach Supervisor
      Job Summary

      The position of Beach Attendant requires an organized, outgoing individual who is professional in appearance with a positive attitude. The Beach Attendant is responsible for the daily set-up and maintenance of TBC’s beach. The Beach Attendant is additionally responsible for providing a positive, helpful personality to assist the members while they are using the beach. The Beach Attendant is responsible for children’s activities on the beach. The Beach Attendants are also responsible for the cleanliness of the guard room and children’s area of The Beach Club. The Beach Attendant completes daily, weekly and monthly cleaning duties, performs daily restocking of towels, and may be tasked for other duties as assigned by the Beach Supervisor.

      Job Duties

      Operational Management:

      The Beach Attendant must set-up, maintain and break-down the beach each day to include establishing the front line of umbrellas, and chairs, as well as additional umbrellas, chairs and towels for use during the day. The Beach Attendant must be ready to assist the members and their guests with beach chairs, umbrellas, towels and getting gear to an available place of the members’ liking on the beach. The Beach Attendant is responsible for children’s activities on the beach, as well as monitoring – but not babysitting – the children as they play on the swing-set and in the open area of sand between the deck and umbrella line. The Beach Attendants have the responsibility of maintaining the cleanliness and – with the Life Guards - the readiness of safety gear in the guard room. The Beach Attendants will set the locker rooms up with towels, and toiletries as provided by TBC each morning before the beach opens, and at the end of the day will ensure that the locker rooms are neat and that all dirty towels have been returned to the men’s locker room bins for pick-up by the linen vendor. The Beach Attendant completes daily, weekly and monthly cleaning duties, performs daily restocking of towels, and may be tasked for other duties as assigned by the Beach Supervisor.

  • Life Guard
    • Position Title: Life Guard

      REQUIREMENT:Certified American Red Cross LGT, Waterfront Lifeguard Certification, and Professional Rescuer CPR. 
      Reports to: Beach Supervisor

      Job Summary

      The position of Life Guard requires an individual to be at least 17 years of age with the following qualifications/certifications: American Red Cross LGT, Waterfront Lifeguard Certification, and Professional Rescuer CPR. Life Guards are responsible for the safety of swimmers, bathers or anyone in the surf and or water of The Beach Club beach area. Life Guards must be self-motivated and highly disciplined individuals in monitoring the activity of all users of the water of The Beach Club beach area. Life Guards are responsible for the daily set-up and preparedness of the safety equipment used by the lifeguards, as well as the beach area itself. Life guards are responsible for the cleanliness and readiness of the Guard Room and TBC beach safety equipment. All staff of The Beach Club must be outgoing individuals who are professional in appearance with a positive attitude. The Beach Attendant completes daily, weekly and monthly cleaning duties, performs daily restocking of supplies, and may be tasked for other duties as assigned by the Beach Supervisor.

      Job Duties

      The chief operational responsibility of TBC Life Guards is the safety of our members and guest who are using the water front area of The Beach Club by maintaining a vigilant eye on all activity occurring in the water, and at the water’s edge. The Beach Club Life Guards are responsible for daily set-up and in service maintenance as well as end of shift breakdown and cleanliness of all beach safety equipment. Life Guards will also help Beach Attendants in setting up the beach daily as well as breaking down the beach at the end of each day. Life Guards are – with beach attendants responsible for the proper cleanliness and readiness of the Guard room and all beach safety equipment therein and elsewhere used at the Beach Club. The Life Guards complete daily, weekly and monthly cleaning duties, performs daily inventory of safety equipment and supplies to make the Beach Supervisor aware of items to be ordered to maintain the established par levels.

  • Receptionist
    • Position Title: Receptionist

      Reports to: Reception Supervisor

      Job Summary

      The position of Receptionist requires a positive, outgoing individual who is professional in appearance with a “how may I help you” attitude. The Receptionist is the voice of the Club, the first impression many members and guests will have of the Club is via their phone connection with the receptionist. Phone calls must be answered with a smile, and a genuine willingness to welcome the caller into the Club. The Receptionist is also the primary reservationist for dining and social events, for beach guest billing as well as being responsible for the accurate charging of merchandise to the correct member accounts. The Receptionist is the first person a member encounters when they come into the Club house, and as such is the gatekeeper for dress code compliance and restricting public access. The receptionist may also be asked to do additional administrative work assigned by the Reception Supervisor.

      Job Duties

      The Receptionist must at all times be positive in how they speak to people in person and on the phone. “Welcoming” and “helpful” are words that people should use when they describe their encounter with the Receptionist. The Receptionist is stationed in the lobby to be the first person to greet anyone coming in the door, greeting members by their last name when known and Sir or Ma’am when not known, but always taking note of the name to use in the future. This is also the opportunity to establish that a person is a member or not, if not the receptionist will inform them that the Club is private and politely ask them to leave. Of primary concern for the Receptionist is answering the main phone line and connecting callers to the right person when unable to answer the caller’s question personally. Calls must be noted on the call register to ensure the number is available for later retrieval or reference. Reservations are taken by the Receptionist, and must be entered into the electronic reservation system immediately to ensure all reservations are accounted for when the system is accessed on-line. The accurate recording of Guest charges and merchandise charges are also a chief concern and duty of the Receptionist.  Communication of reservation changes or peculiarities is crucial to ensuring the smooth operations of the dining areas. Dress code adherence and Club policies are important to the membership and as such are the responsibility of all employees to enforce – politely - while offering solutions where able. That being said the Receptionist primary duty is still the phone, and as such it may be better to call a manager to the lobby to address in detail such an issue. The Receptionist may also be asked to do additional administrative work assigned by The Reception Supervisor.

  • Utility

      Job Summary

      The position of Utility requires a conscientious team player; requires an individual to be professional and of a positive attitude, polite with excellent communication skills. Maintains neat professional uniformed appearance and observes personal cleanliness rules. Is able to take direction for new tasks. Washes and properly stores all cooking utensils, equipment, china, flatware and glassware. Stores all dishes and other wares in proper areas. Sweeps and mops kitchen floors. Cleans and safely stores all brooms, mops, and other cleaning equipment in their proper places.

      Job Duties

      Operational Responsibilities:

      The Utility person washes all wares in dishwashing machine or by hand according to the highest sanitation standards. The Utility person will be required to accept and put away deliveries which will require lifting cases of food and food service products. The Utility person will sets-up, breaks down and keeps up with the work load of the dish station. Maintaining proper levels of detergent, rinse and water in the three bay sink for pots and pans and presoak, for the flatware tray. Ensuring that the dish machines are used properly and connected to the proper canisters of detergent and rinse agents. Running dishes through the dish machines in the proper way, using the proper racks and storing in the designated places after they have been cleaned. Cleans dish machine and dish area as needed to maintain a clean and sanitary environment. Handles all china and glassware carefully to minimize breakage. Polishes all silverware, platters and chafing dishes. Performs other tasks such as assisting in food preparation, storing foods after delivery and cleaning coolers, freezers and storerooms. Continuously inspects floors in kitchen areas to assure they remain clean, clear of debris and dry. Collects trash from kitchen areas; empties garbage cans and washes and re-lines with new bags. Breaks down boxes, crates and removes debris. Sweeps and mops kitchen floors. Washes and cleans receiving, trash and other kitchen-related areas. Assists in completing weekly kitchen cleaning and maintenance list. Keeps chemical storage areas organized. Informs the Executive Sous or Executive Chef as appropriate/available of any inventory needs for this station as they are noticed. Cleans and safely stores all brooms, mops, and other cleaning equipment in their proper places.
